How Do I Change My Reputation As A Leader?

By Jayson Krause, Managing Director of Level 52 & Author of The Science Behind Success

Your reputation determines how people engage with you. It will determine how quickly you rise in the organization and how you get things done. People will either engage with you or run away from you depending on your reputation. Others form biases and spread narratives based on your reputation, so how do you change it? You can’t, if you don’t have good data on what it currently is.

In our executive coaching and Accelerated Leader Programs we have leaders go through a 360 peer review process that is specifically designed to capture their current reputation and reveal blindspots. Once you know what needs renovating, you can develop a plan to intentionally shift it. As author and columnist Harvey Kackay says, “you can’t buy a good reputation, you have to earn it.” In order to earn it, you have to ensure you invest your efforts in the right way and on the right things.
