leader looking toward 2024

By Jayson Krause, Managing Director of Level 52 & Award-Winning Author of The Science Behind Success

As you navigate the uncharted waters of 2024, leaders must adapt and evolve. However, evolution isn't just about adopting new practices; it's also about discarding outdated ones. Here are five things leaders need to stop doing in 2024:

  1. Stop Avoiding Difficult Conversations: In the past, leaders may have shied away from tough talks, fearing conflict or discomfort. As I write in my award-winning book, The Science Behind Success, clear and open communication is key to addressing issues before they become chronic. Leaders must stop avoiding these conversations and instead, approach them with empathy, clarity, and resolution.

  2. Stop Ignoring Personal Impact: Leaders often focus on business outcomes, overlooking their personal impact on team members. In 2024, leaders need to stop this tunnel vision and recognize that their actions and behaviours can significantly affect their team's morale, productivity, and overall job satisfaction.

  3. Stop Being the Problem Solver: Leaders often feel the need to have all the answers. However, this can stifle team growth and innovation. Leaders should stop being the problem and start empowering their teams to find solutions. This not only fosters a culture of learning and innovation but also builds a more resilient and self-reliant team.

  4. Stop Resisting Change: The world is changing faster than ever, and leaders who resist this change risk being left behind. Leaders need to stop resisting and start embracing change, viewing it as an opportunity for growth rather than a threat.

  5. Stop Neglecting Self-Care: Leadership can be demanding, and it's easy for leaders to neglect their own well-being. Those who don't take care of themselves can't effectively take care of their teams. In 2024, leaders need to stop neglecting self-care and start prioritizing their physical and mental health so they can give others their best.

The leaders of 2024 need to be adaptable, empathetic, empowering, and resilient. By leaving these outdated practices behind, you can lead your team towards a more successful and effective year.
